Update 6 The Jump: Out Now (October 19, 2026)

Update 6.0, The Jump, is out: Channel37 released it on Steam on October 19, 2026 (build 0.10.0.653173), after a public beta that began on October 9. Channel37 counts it as the eighth Early Access update. Below is what it adds, in our own words, followed by the preview videos Channel37 posted before the release.

Project Crossing and the Transfer Gate

The arch at the Lazarus Complex turns out to be a Transfer Gate from an old network called Project Crossing. In Update 6's quest you learn what the Gate is, repair it, supply what it is missing, power included, then dial a valid destination address and cross to North Bastion for the first time.

After a Gate opens, the Recall option on its console sends you back to your starting point, and that return trip costs nothing extra. Vehicles can come along, and Channel37 says the Gyrocopter can even fly through an active Gate.

North Bastion

A frozen mountain region centred on one of the biggest facilities Channel37 has built so far. It has a dock, a hangar, a central spire, industrial and utility areas, tunnels and frozen rooms, plus records, loot, enemies and the next chapter of the main quest.

The cold also changes which creatures can survive there.

The cold and heating

In deep cold the Caretaker moves more slowly and loses health, and a temperature readout appears on the HUD when conditions turn dangerous.

To stay warm you can build small, medium and large heaters, a Boiler and the Methane Extractor, and use single-use methane canisters. Heaters differ in strength, range and efficiency, and an area you have warmed now stays warm.

Your Flamethrower and Flame Pistol now work as heat sources too. Some doorways are sealed by ice that you melt with heat or break open, and extreme cold affects the Gyrocopter's rotors.

Anna's story

In North Bastion, a series of reconstruction quests picks up Anna's story with new records, voice-over and Permanent Memories, and you can still talk with Anna once the storyline ends. Channel37 says you may finally meet her.

Machines keep working while you are away

When you return to a base you left, its modules now make up for the missed time far more quickly, across every system, without dragging down performance. During that catch-up, solar panels count at half their usual output.

Building, map and Grid Scanner

While you place a module, each socket now labels its resource and the direction it moves, and modules share resources by percentage rather than by fixed amounts.

Zooming on the world map and the Grid Scanner now follows your cursor, you can add and delete your own map markers, and hidden connections and groups are easier to read in the Grid Scanner.

The Fabricator and build menus gain a separate Quest category, door frames can now take builds, freshly made objects can be set to face you, dismantling and repairing get interrupted less often, and recyclable items list their recycling time and power use.

Balance changes

The UV Light skill costs 2 skill points instead of 3, and the skill tree has new skills.

Anything stowed on your back now adds to your carry weight, you have to stand closer to stow things, and Felis units can be stowed too.

Health injectors are a little weaker, wind turbines stop working when placed in water, boat switches now control only the lights, and the drone's light is stronger against the night swarm.

Copper Scraps recycle in 3 seconds instead of 10, and Fabricators finish items with a shorter delay.

Gyrocopter, ladders and accessibility

Gyrocopter steering and vertical control are better, and you can switch it off on water.

Performance and fixes

Exploring stutters less, and big groups of enemies, cables and modules run more smoothly. Severe lag from Oxygen Generators and from switching to or from drones and vehicles is fixed.

Quest fixes include the Vessel of Tomorrow engine cylinder task, the Rollerboi Factory quest on older saves, First Light steps and whales not spawning after their quest. Fabricators no longer drain power when parts are missing, and sea mines deal damage again.

The public beta (October 9–19)

Update 6 ran on a Steam public beta branch from October 9, 2026 (build 0.10.0.653002) until the full release on October 19.

If you joined it, check which branch you are on in your Steam Library under Properties, then Betas. Back up your saves before you switch; Channel37's Support Center explains where they are kept.

Before the release: Channel37's preview videos

Channel37 posted these short videos on X between October 1 and 11. Each row says whether the October 19 release notes name the feature.

Backpack (October 1 preview)

A new backpack lets you attach items to your back. Channel37's preview video shows a large barrel attached to the back and climbing a ladder with an item on the back.

The preview does not show the backpack’s capacity or recipe.

Not named in the October 19 release notes, which only say that things stowed on your back now add to carry weight.

More space (October 2 preview)

You can remove desks and shelves to free up space; the preview video cuts them away with a cutting tool.

Not named in the October 19 release notes. They only say that boat tables can now be dismantled.

Accessibility (October 4 preview)

The preview video opens the Esc menu, then Options, then the Accessibility page, which lists Remove head bob, Color Blind Mode and a Motion comfort overlay.

The overlay places a marker in the center of the screen and a horizon line to reduce motion sickness. Its settings include Opacity, Line thickness, Colour, Outline, Frame, Horizon line, Horizon mode, Horizon length and Horizon vertical offset.

The October 19 release notes confirm the new Accessibility tab with Motion Comfort settings.

Gyrocopter and Jet Skimmer (October 6 preview)

Channel37 says the Gyrocopter and Jet Skimmer controls were reworked: both are much more stable, and hovering was improved.

The Jet Skimmer was also given more weight, which changes how it handles on the waves.

The October 19 release notes confirm better Gyrocopter steering and vertical control; they do not mention the Jet Skimmer.

Building assistance (October 8 preview)

While you place a module, a green holographic preview shows where the machine’s inputs and outputs are.

It also helps you line up builds and avoid placing machines backwards.

The October 19 release notes confirm that sockets now label the resource a module uses and its direction.

Backpack update (October 11 preview)

Channel37 showed the backpack update again and called it hands-free. The post gives no capacity, recipe or release date.

Not named in the October 19 release notes, which only say that things stowed on your back now add to carry weight.

Update 5.5 Deck Drop (August 31, 2026)

Deck Drop is the seventh Early Access update and the second addition outside the original update schedule. Development of Update 6 was already underway.

Storage

  • Eleven new modules include eight Tier 2 barrels (500 L for fluids and gases; 1.0 kWh for the Battery Barrel) and three Tier 3 bulk containers.
  • Bulk Petrol Tank is shown at 6000 L; Bulk Battery has conflicting 18.0 kWh / 20.0 kWh readings. Bulk Diesel Tank has conflicting 6000 / 10000 L readings; its 10000 L figure is not confirmed yet.
  • The September 2, 2026 skill panels show the lower bulk figures, a September 3 crafting screen shows the higher ones, and the September 5, 2026 developer stream shows an 18.0 kWh Bulk Battery and says container capacities are still being adjusted — check your in-game values.
  • For Bulk Battery, a September 3 crafting screen and a September 16 placed-battery screen agree on 20.0 kWh. Both battery readings remain disputed; neither is selected as the current capacity.

  • A new quest, MOSES Field Reserve Program, has been added at Warehouse Alpha. MOSES quest guide.
  • Memory for Aron adds a new questline.

    World changes

    • Gyrocopter landing platforms and Gyro Towers add new places to land.

      Crafting and balance

      • Ammunition takes 10 seconds to craft.
      • Reactive Core now uses Quantum Crystal in place of Plasma Gel; Grenade Ignition Box now uses Uncommon Part.
      • Weapon and attachment crafting has also been adjusted.

        Fishing

        • The Fishing Module can hold more, and the Fishing Net provides clearer information about the catch.

          Performance and usability

          • Loading causes fewer stalls.
          • Vehicle cameras, forklift controls, weather variety, visibility in fog, collision handling, and interface readability have been improved.

            Selected fixes

            • Omega Nursery completion status is retained after leaving, and quest-trigger issues have been addressed. Omega Nursery quest guide.
            • Fixes cover the Eden water quest, rocket crafting and landing, drifting cables, and incorrect cable recovery counts.

              Update 6 and 1.0 FAQ

When does The Last Caretaker 1.0 come out?

Channel37's official roadmap puts the 1.0 launch in spring 2027. No exact release date has been announced yet.

What is the Update 6 release date?

Update 6.0, The Jump, came out on October 19, 2026. Channel37 released it on Steam as build 0.10.0.653173, ten days after the public beta began on October 9.

Is The Last Caretaker a finished game?

No, it is still in Early Access. Update 6, released on October 19, 2026, is the eighth update since the November 6, 2025 launch, and the official roadmap shows three more classified updates on the way to 1.0 in spring 2027.

Is The Last Caretaker coming to PS5?

We have not found any official PlayStation announcement. As of October 10, 2026, Channel37's plans are 1.0 on PC and a release on Xbox, playable from day one with Xbox Game Pass, in spring 2027.

What is new in Update 6?

Update 6, The Jump, opens the Transfer Gate at the Lazarus Complex and the frozen North Bastion region, makes cold a real danger with small, medium and large heaters, a Boiler, a Methane Extractor and methane canisters, and continues Anna's story. It also lets your machines catch up much faster while you are away and adds your own map markers, sliding down ladders, an Accessibility tab with Motion Comfort settings, better Gyrocopter handling and a large performance and bug-fix pass.

Does The Last Caretaker have a motion sickness setting?

Update 6 adds one. Its Motion comfort overlay places a marker in the center of the screen and a horizon line to reduce motion sickness. Channel37's October 4 preview shows it under Esc menu, Options, Accessibility, next to Remove head bob and Color Blind Mode. The October 19 release notes confirm the new Accessibility tab with Motion Comfort settings.

How do you get to North Bastion?

Through the Transfer Gate, the arch at the Lazarus Complex. Update 6's Project Crossing quest has you restore the Gate, give it what it needs, including power, and enter a valid destination address before the first crossing. Once a Gate is open, its console's Recall option takes you back without paying for another crossing.

Is Our Data Up to Date?

Tool data was re-checked against Early Access 0.8.5 (Update 5.5) in October 2026 where noted below; each tool's Data Status note lists what is still unverified.

Review dates are not game dates: some confirmed details come from older versions and have not been rechecked in Update 5.5. Details that are not confirmed yet are marked.

Update 6 came out on October 19, 2026. The calculators keep the data checked in Update 5.5 or earlier until each one is rechecked in Update 6; the Update 6 section above lists the changes the patch notes confirm.

              • Power Grid Calculator

Counts cable sections and extenders using the B-grade 20 m maximum per section, reviewed October 6, 2026; the underlying November 2025 evidence has not been rechecked in Update 5.5. Wiki-only recipes remain C and do not enter the calculation.

              • Skill Planner

Unlock tiers for 143 blueprints were checked against Early Access 0.8.5 on October 6, 2026. Unlock-point costs are confirmed for 16 blueprints; other costs remain unknown.

              • Lazarus Human Calculator

Food stats were reviewed October 5, 2026 and are confirmed except the disputed Immune Boost stats; many readings are from November 2025, so see the calculator's Data Status for version limits. Twelve ingredient recipes were checked on October 6, 2026 against the wiki and 0.8.5 data; the disputed Nanite Infusion recipe is excluded from ingredient totals.

              • Efficiency Matrix Calculator

The electricity, water, fuel and gas savings were reviewed October 5, 2026 against November 2025 readings and the wiki; they have not been rechecked since Update 5.5. The Tier 8 unlock was checked against Early Access 0.8.5 on October 6, 2026.

              • Fuel & Storage Calculator

Container capacity records were reviewed October 6, 2026. Both readings are displayed for the disputed Bulk Diesel Tank and Bulk Battery capacities, so you can compare container counts without treating either capacity as the default.
