TL;DR - Quick Summary
Visit any 'H' tower → scan 3 blueprints with the Replica Scanner → unlock in skill tree level 14 (3 points) → attach a Petrol Engine Cylinder behind the pilot seat → fuel with Petrol → fly.
The Salvage Gyro is the flying vehicle added in Update 4. It reaches high platforms, deep pits, and locations you can't get to by boat.
Update 4: Below Us added the Salvage Gyro — a light utility aircraft that finally lets Caretakers take to the skies. Unlocking it means tracking down three blueprints scattered across Gyro Service Towers. Here's exactly where to go and what you need.

Quick Navigation
Step 1: Start the Lost Blueprints Quest
After Update 4, new locations appear on the map marked with an 'H' symbol. These are Gyro Service Towers — service structures with landing pads. Sailing to any one of them triggers the Lost Blueprints quest, which tasks you with recovering the Salvage Gyro plans.
Pro Tip: Bring your Replica Scanner before you set sail. You'll need it at every tower, and there's nothing worse than arriving without it.
Step 2: Scan All 3 Blueprints
Three specific service towers each hold one blueprint. Scan each with the Replica Scanner tool:
Tower 1: SGS-SW-115-3225
Southeast from the Sanctuary Dock 37 starting location. Usually the easiest first stop since it's closest to where most players are based early on.
Tower 2: SGS-NW-115-5100
Southeast from Black Vein Station.
Tower 3: SGS-SE-145-6950
Northeast from Exodus Station.
Step 3: Unlock It in the Skill Tree
Once all three blueprints are scanned, the Salvage Gyro plans appear in your Skills menu under the 14th tree level. Unlocking costs 3 skill points.
No respec reminder: The Last Caretaker has no skill respec. If you're saving points for other Tier 13–14 unlocks, plan ahead with our Skill Planner before spending.
Step 4: Engine & Fuel Setup
Before First Flight
Required part: Petrol Engine Cylinder
Where to craft: Fabricator menu → Module/Engine Booster
Mount point: Directly behind the pilot seat
Fuel type: Petrol (same as the Jetski)
Fill amount: Two tanks ≈ near-complete fill
Without engine: The Gyro won't start at all
The most common "my Gyro won't start" problem is a missing Petrol Engine Cylinder. Craft it, walk up to the Gyro, and attach it to the slot directly behind the pilot seat. Then fuel up with Petrol and you're airborne.
Carrying the Gyro on Your Boat
When not flying, you can keep the Salvage Gyro on your boat's deck. It has two hooks beside the pilot seat (left and right) that can secure it while sailing — though they aren't technically made for the Mooring spots, players use them to keep the Gyro from sliding off.
For a proper solution, the Gyro Deck gives you a dedicated landing pad plus extra buildable space on your boat. It unlocks in the 13th skill branch after completing the "A Place to Land" quest, which begins at the Sanctuary 12 location.
What the Gyro Opens Up
The Salvage Gyro isn't just transport — several Update 4+ content paths require it:
- Silo locations — the northern and southern Silos can only be entered with the Gyro, and they hold the two blueprints for the Recovery Grinder ("Ugly Work" quest)
- Recovery Grinder — makes Oil, needed for Stainless Steel in the First Roots Project Eden quests from Update 5
- High platforms and deep pits — locations that were previously unreachable by boat or on foot
In other words: if you want to progress into Update 5's Project Eden content, unlocking the Gyro is on the critical path.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do you unlock the Salvage Gyro in The Last Caretaker?
Visit any Gyro Service Tower (marked with an 'H' on the map) to start the Lost Blueprints quest, scan the blueprints at all three towers with the Replica Scanner, then unlock the Salvage Gyro plans in the 14th skill tree level for 3 skill points.
Where are the three Gyro blueprint locations?
SGS-SW-115-3225 southeast from the Sanctuary Dock 37 starting location, SGS-NW-115-5100 southeast from Black Vein Station, and SGS-SE-145-6950 northeast from Exodus Station.
Why won't my Salvage Gyro start?
The Gyro requires a Petrol Engine Cylinder attached directly behind the pilot seat. Craft one in the Fabricator menu under Module/Engine Booster. It also needs Petrol fuel — two tanks give a near-complete fill.
