How to Get Titanium & Carbon Fiber: Scraps, Ore and Machines

Titanium and Carbon Fiber come mostly from recycling. Start with the confirmed routes below, then use the separately labeled reports to decide where to search.

Quick answer: three routes

  1. Recycle High-Tech Scraps → Carbon Fiber and Titanium
  2. Mine Titanium Ore, then recycle the nuggets → Titanium
  3. Run a CO2 Reactor Tank → Carbon Fiber

Titanium and Carbon Fiber are both Rare materials.

How much Titanium you need

Titanium calculator

Enter how many of each you plan to build. It starts with the six modules I Know This Place needs.

12 Titanium · 6 Gold

If all of it comes from ore, that is 12 Titanium Nuggets to recycle (1 Titanium each). Loose Titanium and High-Tech Scraps cut that down.

In Update 6, each of the six replacement modules for I Know This Place is built at the Fabricator from 2 Titanium and 1 Gold, so the quest needs 12 Titanium and 6 Gold in all.

The FLO BH-60 Boiler, the large methane boiler Update 6 added for the cold, takes 2 Advanced Alloy Mesh and 1 Power Core among its parts, so each boiler needs 7 Titanium.

Per craft, Advanced Alloy Mesh takes 2 Titanium, 2 Aluminium and 1 Iron; Power Core 3 Titanium, 2 Copper, 2 Aluminium and 1 Glass; Isotope Stabilizer 3 Titanium, 4 Aluminium, 2 Polyurethane and 1 Plasma Gel; Reactive Core 3 Titanium, 6 Aluminium and 1 Quantum Crystal.

A Power Triode, needed for the device at Quarantine Stack Amen, takes 4 Titanium, 2 Gold and 2 Copper to build.

Not confirmed yet

One Power Triode is listed lying at each of the four Quarantine Stacks (Amen, Aurora, Chorus and Dawn), so you may not need to build any.

High-Tech Scraps: both materials at once

Recycle High-Tech Scraps in a powered Recycler to get Carbon Fiber and Titanium.

High-Tech Scraps turn up while exploring, and you also get them by dismantling objects that contain them.

Not confirmed yet

How much one High-Tech Scrap gives is disputed. The wiki lists 1 Carbon Fiber and 1 Titanium every time; another listing shows a 25% chance of 1–2 of each.

Not confirmed yet

LCD Monitors, Glass Tables, Aged Lazarus containers and several Broken Robot variants are listed among objects that dismantle into High-Tech Scraps. One Broken Robot dismantle gave no High-Tech Scraps, so read the dismantle tooltip before you start.

Not confirmed yet

The most High-Tech Scraps are listed around Central Warehouse Alpha, the Lazarus Complex, Research Outpost Theta-9 and Exodus Station.

Titanium Ore → Titanium Nugget → Titanium

Update 02 added ore as a new resource, with metals of varying types, and a Sonar module that scans the ocean floor for resources including ore.

Mine Titanium Ore with the dismantle tool to get Titanium Nuggets, then recycle each nugget in the Recycler for 1 Titanium.

Not confirmed yet

Dismantling Titanium Ore may give 1–2 Titanium Nuggets 50% of the time; the ore is listed at 60 kg.

Not confirmed yet

Most Titanium Ore is listed at the four Quarantine Stacks (Amen, Chorus, Dawn and Aurora), with a few more at North Deep Intake Station, Unlisted Tower, The Spire of Command, The Spire of Industry and in open sea.

Other ways to get Titanium

Titanium itself can also be picked up while exploring.

The Recovery Grinder gives Titanium and Copper as byproducts when it grinds Aluminum or Gold, along with oil.

Not confirmed yet

Loose Titanium is listed at Central Warehouse Alpha (10), North Bastion (10) and Navigation Beacon 49 (1), and loose Carbon Fiber at Sanctuary Dock 37.

Carbon Fiber from the CO2 Reactor Tank

The CO2 Reactor Tank is a build-menu machine that turns Carbon Dioxide into Carbon Fiber while it has electricity. It unlocks at skill tier 22.

What Titanium is used for

Titanium is an ingredient in Advanced Alloy Mesh, Isotope Stabilizer, Power Core and Reactive Core. Update 6 adds the six I Know This Place modules, the Power Triodes, the Rest Frame and the Sniper Rod of the Bolt Sniper.

Titanium Dioxide White is a paint pigment made by recycling Rutile Nuggets. It is not a source of Titanium.

Frequently asked questions

How do you get Titanium?

Recycle High-Tech Scraps in a powered Recycler, or mine Titanium Ore with the dismantle tool and recycle each Titanium Nugget for 1 Titanium.

How do you get Carbon Fiber?
