The Last Caretaker Underwater Caves: Coordinates and How to Find Them

There are 8 underwater caves. Seven are named, with their coordinates, in the Whispers Within log on a PECO terminal; the eighth, The Forth Chamber, is hidden. Each entrance is a small opening in a huge underwater boulder, from about 60–66 m deep at North Lantern to about 200 m at Grey Mouth. Your safe dive depth is 10 m plus your Pressure level, at most 110 m, so the four deepest caves need extra power.

These are approximate in-game map-grid coordinates, not metre values. One grid unit is about 100 m. X increases eastward; Y decreases northward. Some figures are given in metres, so they need dividing by 100 for comparison.

The PECO terminal log Whispers Within gives seven of the caves by name with their coordinates; read it once you have picked up enough memories.

What Is in Each Cave

Each cave holds cave painting samples to collect with the Photo Drone and memory items you use to grow humans. Every cave except Twin Tide has red cocoons (egg sacks) inside, so bring a weapon.

First Whisper

9, 5 · entrance about 75–80 m

About 0.4 km north-west of Sanctuary Dock 37, where you start.

Deep Silence

49, -20 · entrance about 165–168 m

About 1 km north-west of Brighton Grave, at the bottom of a canyon.

Far Horizon

Grey Mouth

North Lantern

South Echo

The Forth Chamber

About 1.3 km north of Unlisted Tower, on top of an underwater plateau.

Not confirmed yet: The entrance is on top of the plateau, about 120 m deep.

Coordinate and depth evidence

North Lantern is at 55, -82, which matches a Y value of -8,162 m. The terminal log instead has 55/82. We keep the negative Y, which two readings agree on; the reason for the difference is not confirmed yet.

The South Echo table position is about 74, 38. The map cursor has also read 73 : 37 there, a nearby position rather than the exact entrance.

The table uses Far Horizon, the name in the terminal log; it is sometimes called Distant Horizon.

How to find a cave entrance

Each cave is a small opening in a huge underwater boulder or plateau, not a hole in the sea floor.

Below your safe depth your battery drains much faster and your Vitality drops slowly. For the deep caves, plug in a power cable from your boat or carry batteries and Charge Injectors.
